News Synopsis

Over 800 WhiteHat Jr personnel have resigned from the Byju's-owned ed-tech start-up withinside the ultimate months after the company asked its employees to work from the office. Mumbai-based WhiteHat Jr. was acquired by ed-tech giant Byju in 2020 for $300 million and asked all employees to work in the office within a month.

The dismissed employees did not want to move to their respective office locations. According to the Inc42 report, this includes employees in areas such as sales, programming, and math. In a company-wide email, the company asked a remote worker to return to the office.

Karan Bajaj, the founder of WhiteHat Jr, sold the 18-month startup to Byju's founder and CEO Byju Raveendran for $300 million in cash in 2020 via the video conference platform Zoom itself. Bajaj continued to lead and sell the business in India and the USA.

The Educational Technology Department has been integrated over the last 12 months in a pandemic. Edtech startup Lido Learning closed its operation in February. This has led his staff to seek help through social media platforms.

Recently, ed-tech unicorn Unacademy has fired about 600 employees, accounting for nearly 10% of its workforce. In this move, sources say, the pandemic is likely to focus on departmental profitability and the driving force for integration and cost savings.
