News Synopsis

Meta-owned WhatsApp is gearing up to roll out a much-awaited feature for iPhone users—multi-account support. The feature, which is currently under development, was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for iOS version 25.19.10.74, as reported by WABetaInfo. This new capability will allow users to access and switch between multiple WhatsApp accounts on a single device seamlessly, a first for iOS.

Why Multi-Account Support Matters for iPhone Users

Currently, iPhone users must rely on third-party workarounds or use dual devices to manage multiple WhatsApp accounts. This can be inconvenient for users juggling personal and professional communications. With this upcoming update, WhatsApp aims to simplify account management on iOS, much like the feature already available on Android.

This new feature is expected to benefit professionals, business owners, and power users who need to stay active on more than one WhatsApp account without switching devices or repeatedly logging in and out.

New ‘Account List’ Page to Enable Easy Switching

A major part of this feature is the introduction of a new "Account List" section within the Settings menu of WhatsApp for iOS. Once released, this section will display all WhatsApp accounts currently signed in on the device. Users will be able to:

  • Add or remove accounts at any time

  • View profile pictures, status messages, and account details

  • Instantly switch between accounts with a single tap

This streamlined approach eliminates the need to restart the app or perform manual logins. Each account will retain its own chat history, media, settings, and preferences, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted experience.

Seamless Experience with Personalised Settings Per Account

When switching accounts, WhatsApp will automatically load the corresponding chat history, media files, notification tones, download settings, and backup configurations for the selected account. This ensures each account remains separate and customized.

Importantly, this account-switching process is designed to be instant, removing the hassle of relaunching the app or entering verification codes each time.

Improved Notification Handling for Multiple Accounts

In addition to account management, WhatsApp is working on enhancing its notification system for devices using multiple accounts. If a user is currently active on one account and receives a message on another, the notification will show:

  • The sender’s name

  • The account name the message is tied to

Tapping on this notification will automatically switch the app to the correct account and open the relevant chat thread. This ensures that users don’t miss important messages and can reply instantly, regardless of which account is currently active.

Still in Development with No Official Release Date

Although this feature was found in the TestFlight beta build of WhatsApp for iOS, it is not yet accessible even to beta users. Both the multi-account support and enhanced notification management features are still under active development.

As of now, WhatsApp has not made any official announcement regarding the public rollout timeline. However, given that development is underway, users can expect an update in the coming months.

What to Expect Going Forward

This move by WhatsApp aligns with Meta’s broader goal of making cross-platform messaging more efficient and user-friendly. Once launched, iPhone users will finally enjoy the flexibility of using multiple WhatsApp accounts without needing extra devices or third-party apps.

This development is especially timely as more users blend personal and professional lives on a single smartphone and demand better multitasking features from their messaging platforms.
