News Synopsis

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson recently said that the West made a terrible mistake when it let go of Russian President Vladimir Putin after the annexation of Crimea in the year 2014. Mr. Johnson further said that the dependence of the West on the Russian energy supply should be ended as soon as possible to stand up to Russia’s bullying. Recently, the United Kingdom government imposed a ban on the import of Russian luxury goods. Mr. Johnson said: “The only way to halt President Putin's continuous blackmail was by ending western reliance on Russian fossil fuels - a process that would be painful.” The British Prime Minister is also preparing to talk to Gulf Nations for increasing the production of oil and gas so they could become an alternate energy supplier to the nation as the United Kingdom has decided to end its dependence on Russian oil imports by the end of this year. However, the decision to hold energy talks with Saudi Arabia has been criticized by many members of the Parliament after Saudi Arabia executed 81 people in a single day. Downing Street says the United Kingdom "will continue to raise human rights abuses" with Saudi Arabia.
