News Synopsis

Walmart has joined Facebook, Nike, Ralph Lauren, Bumble, Disney and other companies to have their own corner of the metaverse. The largest private employer in the USA has filed for several trademarks in late December that included its plans to sell virtual merchandise.

Just like many other firms, Walmart is also directing it to the metaverse, a digital space where people can interact by using digital avatars. Walmart has listed a series of products that it plans to sell in the virtual world, including electronics, appliances, apparel, home goods, and personal care products. Another filing also includes its plans to generate its own cryptocurrency payment method along with a collection of NFTs.

Other apparel retailers like Urban Outfitters, Ralph Lauren and Abercrombie & Fitch have already filed trademarks in recent weeks to open their own virtual stores.
