News Synopsis

The president of the United States of America, Joe Biden has said that he is considering a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics because the event is being held in Beijing, China. The boycott has come out as a result of the rising tensions between US-China relations. According to the Biden spokesperson, no discussion about the winter Olympics took place among Joe Biden and Xi Jinping during their virtual meeting on Monday.

Under this boycott, no US official will be sent to attend the games in Beijing but it would not affect the athletes in any way. Many other US officials are asking for a complete boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics as a diplomatic boycott would be too little too late according to them.

The tensions are high among the USA and China ever since the news came out about China genocide of a minority group in the country and also how the country represses the political freedom in Hong Kong.
