US Suspends Student Visa Cancellations Following Legal Challenge: Reports

The United States has unexpectedly paused the cancellation of student visas issued to international students, multiple media outlets reported on Friday. This decision comes as U.S. authorities face growing legal challenges over the revocations.

New Review System Under Development

During a court hearing in Washington D.C., Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph F. Carilli Jr. announced that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is working on a new framework to manage and process visa revocations.

Until this system is fully operational, the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records for impacted students will either remain active or be reactivated if they are currently inactive. Carilli clarified that ICE will not change students' statuses based solely on National Crime Information Centre (NCIC) alerts, which had previously triggered the wave of visa terminations.
