News Synopsis

According to the media reports, a U.S. judge denied Apple's complaint to dismiss the modified anti-trust proceedings filed by the creator of the jailbreak iPhone app store Cydia, in order to respond to the proceedings against iPhone makers gave 21 days of grace.

Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers of the California district has denied Apple's motion to dismiss the case. Cydia developer Jay Freeman first filed a lawsuit against Apple in 2020, claiming that Apple "illegally gained and maintained its monopoly" in the distribution and payment of the iOS app.

New complaints allege that  Apple implemented "more aggressive" changes in iOS between 2018 to 2021 and prevented Cydia and other alternative app stores from offering "useable" apps to the iPhone.

Meanwhile, Fortnite game maker Epic Games has challenged Apple with a stance that third-party app stores jeopardize the security of the iPhone. Epic said in a new court filing that the iPhone could do the same if Apple allowed sideloading on Mac devices and could safely call those computers.

However, a California court ruled that Apple cannot prohibit developers from adding links to alternative payment systems other than the App Store-based system. Apple states that allowing sideloading can jeopardize a user's "most sensitive personal information."
