News Synopsis

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has launched a new online application portal effective May 28, 2025, to streamline the registration and application process for its various examinations. This portal replaces the old One Time Registration (OTR) module and introduces a universal registration system to save applicants time and avoid last-minute rushes.

Key Features of the New UPSC Application Portal

1. Four-Part Modular Structure

The new portal is organized into four distinct sections, each represented as a separate card on the homepage:

  • Account Creation: Candidates can register using their mobile number and email address.

  • Universal Registration: This section collects basic personal and educational details common to all examinations.

  • Common Application Form: Applicants can fill out this form with information applicable across various exams.

  • Examination: This part contains examination notices, application forms specific to each exam, and application status updates.

The first three sections can be completed at any time, allowing candidates to prepare in advance. The 'Examination' section is to be filled out during the application period specified in the exam notification.

2. Discontinuation of the Old OTR Module

The previous One Time Registration (OTR) system has been discontinued. All applicants are now required to register afresh on the new portal at

3. Aadhaar-Based Identity Verification

Applicants are strongly advised to use their Aadhaar Card as the identity document in the Universal Application. This facilitates easy, effortless, and seamless verification and authentication of ID and other details, serving as a permanent and common record for all examinations.

4. Enhanced User Guidance

Detailed instructions are available on the homepage and within each module to guide candidates through the application process and document uploads.

Implementation and Upcoming Examinations

The new portal will be used for all upcoming UPSC examinations. Applications for the Combined Defence Services (CDS) Exam-II, 2025, and the National Defence Academy (NDA) & Naval Academy (NA) Exam-II, 2025, scheduled to be notified on May 28, 2025, will be accepted through this new online application portal.

Benefits for Aspirants

  • Time Efficiency: By allowing candidates to fill out common sections in advance, the portal reduces the time required during the actual application period.

  • Reduced Last-Minute Rush: Pre-filling information and uploading documents ahead of time help avoid last-minute technical issues and stress.

  • Streamlined Process: The modular structure simplifies the application process, making it more user-friendly.
