News Synopsis

The second week of August will mark the official groundbreaking for proposals worth at least Rs 16 lakh crore that the Uttar Pradesh government received during the Global Investors' Summit (GIS). As the nation gets closer to the general elections in 2024, the event will serve as a showcase for industrialization and growth in the state.

According to a state government spokesperson, the event would be attended by investors from all around the world as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Central ministries.

The state government signed MoUs worth Rs 34.09 lakh crore with both domestic and foreign investors during the three-day GIS that took place in February.

President Draupadi Murmu attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest, while Modi inaugurated the event.

According to officials, planning for the groundbreaking ceremony has already started, and Lucknow's Indira Gandhi Pratishthan is one of the possible locations.

The government spokesperson stated, "The government is holding talks with investors with whom MoUs were signed during the GIS regarding their participation in the ground-breaking ceremony,"

"Those who are ready to execute their investment proposals immediately will be provided a platform through this ceremony. Discussions have started with such investors and their names are likely to be finalised soon," he added.

He said that directions had also been issued to all development officials and district magistrates to ensure that land was available for the projects. He said details regarding proposals, land requirements, and subsidies for each of these investors were being collected.

It is the responsibility of several ministers to make sure that initiatives are grounded. Senior officials are keeping an eye on each MoU that was signed under the GIS umbrella.

Each department is establishing an Investment Implementation Unit, which will be overseen by an officer at the secretary level. All MoUs signed under their departments' auspices must be carried out by these units.

Sector-specific investment monitoring is the responsibility of employees at the level of special secretary and higher.
