News Synopsis

The United Kingdom, on Friday, announced that it has lifted all covid 19 restrictions related to international travel. These restrictions include Passenger Locator forms that were required to be filled before arrival and mandatory pre-departure tests for unvaccinated travellers. This decision was announced earlier by the department for transport and has come into effect from 4 am on Friday. The British government further added that it will keep a range of “contingency measures in reserve”, which would enable them to take “swift and proportionate” action to delay the entry of any future harmful variants of COVID-19 in the country. UK Aviation Minister Robert Courts said: “Everything we have worked for, every jab, every test, and the sacrifices made by the whole country means that finally, nearly two years on, we can all travel without bureaucratic restrictions.” Earlier this week when UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps made the announcement he said: “I said we wouldn’t keep travel measures in place for any longer than necessary, which we’re delivering on today – providing more welcome news and greater freedom for travellers ahead of the Easter holidays. I look forward to continuing to work with the travel sector and partners around the world to keep international travel moving.”
