News Synopsis

In the midst of the war going on between Russia and Ukraine, a renowned Ukrainian Scientist has expressed her concerns about the disruptions of climate change solutions. Dr. Svitlana Krakovska said that the conflict is "closing the window of opportunity" to take action against the rising levels of climate change. Dr. Krakovska is a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). She said: "It's amazing how the people of Ukraine united against one enemy. If we all unite against climate change, we can survive as a civilization." She informed that when her country was invaded by the Russian Forces, she was participating in the final stage of approving the IPPC's latest major assessment on the impacts of climate change. She further said: "Everything stopped. I can't think about climate change, because I can't think about anything other than to try to survive."  She also informed that Russia is able to fight this war because of Europe’s dependency on Russia for Oil and Gas. According to her, “The money that's invested in fossil fuels, they're using against us. Against freedom. Against humanity." According to the latest reports, the Russian Army has established its control over Europe’s largest Nuclear Power Plant situated in Ukraine.
