News Synopsis

The first batch of the Afghan LGBTQ group arrived in the UK on Friday after the ministry safely evacuated them from their native place. The first batch of evacuees consists of almost 30 people who all identified as members of the LGBTQ community. Among them are students and LGBTQ activists who have long been fighting for their rights and dignity but since the Taliban takeover, the LGBTQ community is at high risk because of the Taliban’s extreme views on LGBTQ. This is why the community has been at the top of the list of evacuees, said the ministries.

This is only the first batch since Afghanistan has a substantial LGBTQ population. The UK will provide these evacuees support to live their lives as they wish. They will be helped by LGBTQ charities in setting up their life and helping them live with dignity.
