News Synopsis

Uber has officially launched "Courier XL" in India—a new category under its growing logistics arm, Uber Courier. Designed to support deliveries of larger and heavier items, Courier XL allows users to book goods transport services seamlessly through the Uber app. This marks a strategic expansion beyond bike-based deliveries, introducing 3- and 4-wheeler carriers for transporting goods up to 750 kg.

This new offering promises fast, reliable, and technology-enabled logistics solutions, catering especially to users looking for bulk and oversized deliveries.

Building on Uber Courier’s Strong Growth in India

Courier XL arrives at a time when Uber Courier is experiencing remarkable momentum in India. Originally launched as a two-wheeler parcel delivery service, Uber Courier has now spread to 25 cities and served over 5 million users.

In 2024 alone, package deliveries via Uber Courier surged by more than 50% year-on-year, with further growth reported in early 2025. The service is becoming a preferred logistics option for both personal and business users due to its speed, simplicity, and real-time tracking features.

Large Delivery Capability with Familiar Uber Convenience

Courier XL retains the core benefits that have made Uber Courier a hit with users: upfront pricing, live GPS tracking, seamless bookings, and on-demand availability—all within the Uber app interface.

The newly launched category is currently operational in Delhi NCR and Mumbai, two of India’s largest metro hubs. Plans are already underway to expand Courier XL to additional cities in the coming months, providing broader access to its large-item delivery service.

Meeting the Needs of Small Businesses and Households

According to Shiva Shailendran, Director of Consumer & Growth at Uber India South Asia, the launch of Courier XL is in response to strong user demand—particularly from small businesses and households.

“Courier XL is our answer to a growing demand from users who need a reliable way to move heavier goods across the city. Whether it’s inventory, furniture, or large parcels, we’re making big moves simpler and smarter,” said Shailendran.

This service is ideal for local merchants, furniture sellers, warehouse operators, and families needing to transport oversized items without hiring dedicated transport agents.

India’s On-Demand Logistics Sector is Evolving Rapidly

Uber's logistics growth reflects broader trends in India's booming on-demand delivery space. In 2024, the average delivery distance for Uber Courier was 11 km nationwide. However, cities like Delhi NCR and Mumbai saw longer average trips—14 km and 12 km respectively.

Deliveries ranged widely in distance, from short 750-meter hyperlocal trips in Chennai to a 134-kilometer long haul within the Delhi NCR region.

Understanding Delivery Trends: Time, Day, and Occasion

User behavior data from 2024 also highlighted peak delivery patterns. The most active delivery hour was between 12 PM and 1 PM—likely coinciding with office and lunch-related drop-offs. Interestingly, Delhi NCR had the highest demand for late-night deliveries, with nearly 10% of trips occurring after 11 PM.

Weekly trends show Monday to Wednesday as the busiest delivery days, possibly reflecting workweek demands and planning cycles.

Popular During Festivals and Special Moments

Uber Courier services see noticeable surges during festive seasons such as Diwali, Rakshabandhan, and Christmas. Occasions like Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and birthdays also see increased activity, with users utilizing the store pickup feature and instant delivery options for sending surprise gifts.

These patterns underline that Uber Courier—and now Courier XL—is more than just a logistics tool. It plays a role in everyday life, helping users stay connected and meet personal or business needs efficiently.

Conclusion: A Big Step in Smart Urban Logistics

With Courier XL, Uber is taking a significant step toward becoming a full-spectrum logistics provider in India. By allowing for deliveries of goods weighing up to 750 kg and leveraging tech-based booking systems, Uber is simplifying urban logistics for businesses and individuals alike.

The launch in Delhi NCR and Mumbai is only the beginning, as Uber continues to innovate and scale its logistics capabilities across Indian cities.
