News Synopsis

TweetDeck, Twitter's social media dashboard programme for management, will no longer be offered as a standalone Mac client beginning July 1. Twitter has begun posting a blue banner at the top of the TweetDeck for Mac software, telling users that it will only be available for one month more, according to 9To5Google.

"We are saying goodbye to TweetDeck for the Mac app to focus on making TweetDeck even better and testing our new Preview. July 1 is the last day it will be available," a tweet from the TweetDeck team reads.

According to the article, TweetDeck for Mac was updated last year to bring it in line with the web version. The firm noted at the time that the app had not received "a lot of love," but that it was an example of "a Twitter-owned and operated service that we will continue to invest in."

Another odd aspect of the TweetDeck Mac app's abrupt termination is that, as a website wrapper implementation, it should not require any maintenance effort from Twitter.

The microblogging site unveiled a new and improved version of TweetDeck last year. It was testing the new features with a small number of users in the United States, Canada, and Australia at the time.
