News Synopsis

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India is soon going to start working on a new mechanism that will display the caller's ID on the receiver's phone. The discussion on the new feature is expected to start in a few months.

TRAI Chairman PD Vaghela has said that TRAI has received some references related to this and work is going to start on it soon. Thus, now if such a feature is introduced then third-party apps like Truecaller will no longer be needed and the caller details will be displayed before the call is received.

According to a report by the Press Trust of India, the consultation for this mechanism will take place in a few months. It will take some time to start the consultation now, it will make the voice calling experience for Indians more secure.

This new feature of TRAI, if the display name will be extracted from KYC data, with a higher level of transparency. TRAI is yet to start consultations on the matter, so there is no word yet on how the system will ultimately work.
