News Synopsis

The telecom regulator of India is planning another consumer-friendly directive to the telecom operators. TRAI is mandating at least one 30-day prepaid recharge plan. In its first order in 2022, it directed telcos to offer at least one plan voucher with 30-day validity. It also said that the offer should be renewable on the same date every month.

Telecom operators in India are in continuous practice of having a 28-day plan as monthly. But after receiving multiple complaints from users that these plans force them to recharge 13 times a year despite being only 12 months.

As per the requirements of TRAI, telecom operators could technically offer a namesake 3- days plan after increasing the price of 2 days when compared to a similar 18-day plan.
