Tinder Partners up With Garbo to Offer Access to Background Checks

Tinder has announced a new partnership with Garbo, a startup that conducts streamlined and cost-effective background checks. Tinder users can access Garbo's services through the Tinder app, and Tinder offers two free background checks for each user. After that, there is a processing fee of $ 2.50 for each search.

Tracey Breeden, Head of Safety and Social Advocacy for Tinder's parent company Match Group, said the decision to provide access to background checks was made with user safety in mind.

The service can search public records with just a few bits of information about an individual, such as their first name and phone number. Garbo then displays a record of the arrests and convictions found, as well as an entry for the sex offender registration.

However, there is certain information that Garbo does not provide. According to Breeden, this service does not display home addresses, drug possessions, wanderings, or public records of wanderings. These types of crimes have a significant impact on blacks and communities left behind by society.

Still, most dating app users probably don't expect a background check to be done in their match. According to Breeden, Tinder complies with all privacy laws and does not share user information with Garbo. Tinder users can also determine the amount of information they share on the platform.
