News Synopsis

Global brands and tech companies in order to express their solidarity with war torn Ukraine have halted or restricted their services in Russia. Joining the list further, the short video sharing platform Tiktok and OTT streaming giant Netflix have announced that they will be stopping their services and access to their platform in Russia. Netflix said that it took this decision as a protest against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Tiktok on the other hand told that it decided to halt its services to stop the spread of “fake news” by the Russian Media on its platform. A few days back, Visa, Mastercard, and PwC also stopped their services in Russia. Tiktok in its tweet said: "In light of Russia's new 'fake news' law, we have no choice but to suspend live-streaming and new content to our video service while we review the safety implications of this law. Our in-app messaging service will not be affected. We will continue to evaluate the evolving circumstances in Russia to determine when we might fully resume our services with safety as our top priority." Netflix also while announcing to stop their services in Russia said:  "Given the circumstances on the ground, we have decided to suspend our service in Russia."
