News Synopsis

It is reported that in the United Kingdom, around eight million trees were uprooted because of the winter storms. The threat is not over yet. According to the forest managers, there are two other storms coming down in the country called Dudley and Eunice. They are expected to cause catastrophic damage to the trees left behind. This is one of the severe consequences of climate change and Global Warming. The weather is becoming more severe and exhibiting erratic unpredictable climate patterns. Forest ranger Richard Tanner said: "It looks like someone's set off a bomb. There's three tonnes of tree and then five or six tonnes of earth maybe. And that's all got to be dealt with. We've lost thousands and thousands of trees just on this one property”. The storms have caused damage to 4,000 hectares of forest. Mr. Tanner on the other hand said that this is not as bad as it looks. It is a natural method of regeneration. The trees that are uprooted could be sold for timber. Looking at the recent disastrous climatic events, it is high time we take climate change seriously and plan and implement effective solutions to curb it.
