News Synopsis

During Diwali, many cities notice smog; Delhi is a prime example of it. To control pollution, many activists and government institutions have started promoting either no crackers or green crackers that cause less pollution compared to the traditional ones. This year too as we inch closer towards Diwali, many state governments have begun promoting the use of green crackers.

The first government to do this was the Delhi government since Delhi is often shamed for creating a huge chunk of India’s total pollution. Following Delhi’s footsteps, now Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and a few other states. Some have completely banned the sale while others have allowed the sale of only green crackers. But many claim that even green crackers will cause a lot of pollution if it's done on a large scale. Thus many want the center to completely ban the sale and procurement of firecrackers on Diwali. Since lighting firecrackers is not written in scriptures, one can easily celebrate the festival of light without causing harm to the environment. Diwali should be about joy, happiness, and sharing love and not about pollution and harmful toxins.
