News Synopsis

The automobile company, Maruti Suzuki has said that the third wave of Covid-19 has had a minimal impact on the production and demand of cars. The company says that the disruption of the third wave is less severe than in previous phases of the pandemic.

The Senior Executive Director at Maruti Suzuki India, Shashank Srivastava has said this in a conversation with IANS. He said that the company and the auto industry has coped well with the third wave pointing out that it took the company to reach from 0 to 6,000 units of production per day during the first wave.

Maruti Suzuki India sold a total of 154,379 units in January on account of lower production. Shashank Srivastava also talked about ease in the semiconductor supply issue. The total production of the company of passenger and commercial vehicles rose to 161,383 units from 160,975 units during the same time period last year.

The auto and tech industry all around the globe has been facing certain issues with production and supply chain ever since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. It included major issues like the supply chain and the semiconductors shortage and Chipset.

This also led companies to increase the prices of vehicles. The senior executive officer has also said that the commodity prices increase in the last 1.5 years has been extremely high. The price hikes which have been covered by manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki are still not sufficient to cover the increased commodity prices. Hence, the stress on profitability for the auto industry continues.
