In an effort to counter China's stronger significance in the strategically important region the US, Britain, and Australia have announced a new trilateral security alliance for the Indo-Pacific to face the threats of the twenty-first century and allow for greater sharing of defence capabilities including helping Australia acquire nuclear-powered submarines.

US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and his Australian partner Scott Morrison launched the ambitious security plan in a joint statement saying it will support their shared values and interests and promote stability in the Indo-Pacific.

President Biden said at the virtual launch of the new alliance known as AUKUS on Wednesday we are taking another historic step to deepen and formalize cooperation among all three of our nations because we all recognize the imperative of ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific over the long term.

Biden added that the three nations would update and improve their joint capacity to face the risks of the 21st century just as they did in the 20th while speaking from the East Room of the White House.

We have long maintained strong and capable partners in the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom, and our relationships are even stronger now. We're making another historic move today to improve and formalise the cooperation between our three countries because we all understand how important it is to maintain peace and security.

It's interesting that US President Biden will host a meeting of Quad leaders in Washington on September 24. AUKUS was launched one week before that meeting. Australian Premier Scott Morrison, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will all be present at the meeting.

President Joe Biden announced the establishment of new security cooperation between the US, Australia, and the United Kingdom, aimed at bolstering regional stability as China grows its military force and influence. Australia's Scott Morrison and the United Kingdom's Boris Johnson virtually joined Biden for the unveiling of the cooperation.

The new AUKUS union will allow the three nations to exchange artificial intelligence underwater competencies and other erudite technology as well as enhance cooperation on a variety of defense capabilities in the Indo-Pacific. One of the working group's first projects will be to assist Australia in developing a navy of nuclear-powered submarines which according to Australian media might lead to the cancellation of a $90 billion submarine agreement with France.

The United States and the United Kingdom will also help Canberra acquire nuclear-powered submarines allowing Australia's navy to fight Chinese nuclear-powered warships in the region. Only six countries now have nuclear submarines - the United States Of America, China, Russia, France, India, and the United Kingdom. The United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom also intend to expand technology cooperation in areas like cyber, artificial intelligence, and quantum technologies. Through the Five Eyes partnership, the three nations, together with Canada and New Zealand, already exchange a lot of information.
