News Synopsis

Mercedes-Benz has pulled back the curtains on the revamped GLE in anticipation of its November 2 launch in India. This mid-size luxury SUV, which premiered globally in February of this year, is set to find its place between the GLC and the flagship GLS in the Indian market.

Let's delve into what's in store for the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE.

Design and Interior Updates

The new Mercedes-Benz GLE showcases a series of subtle design modifications. These include revamped front and rear bumpers, pixelated LED headlamps, and fresh alloy wheel designs. It also boasts integrated LED DRLs, a new single-slat grille, and sleek black ORVMs. The overall exterior design retains its classic charm.

Inside, the GLE's interior has received a facelift with an updated MBUX infotainment system. Additionally, it offers an optional off-road package and a multifunction steering wheel equipped with touch-sensitive controls inspired by the current-generation S-Class. To complete the package, we anticipate Mercedes will introduce new upholstery options and interior color themes.

Engine Options

The facelifted GLE comes with a variety of engine choices worldwide. In India, it is expected to continue with the existing engine lineup, which includes a 3.0-liter six-cylinder petrol engine for the 450 variant and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine for the 300d trim.

Moreover, the current 400d trim may be replaced by the new 450d version, powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine that generates an impressive 367 bhp and 750 Nm of peak torque.

All engine options will be coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission and Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. Each engine variant will incorporate a 48V mild-hybrid system featuring an integrated starter generator that provides an additional 20 bhp and 200 Nm of torque.

Expected Pricing and Competition

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE is expected to carry a price tag of approximately Rs 93 lakh (ex-showroom), making it slightly more expensive than its predecessor. It will face competition from the likes of the Audi Q7, BMW X5, and Range Rover Velar in the Indian luxury SUV market.
