News Synopsis

Tesla is gearing up to strengthen its presence in India—not just by selling cars but by building a complete EV ecosystem. With deliveries already underway and charging infrastructure expanding across major cities, the company is positioning itself for long-term growth in the Indian electric mobility market.

American electric car manufacturer Tesla is now preparing to strengthen its position in India, with plans that go far beyond just selling vehicles. Instead, the company intends to create a complete electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem across the country.

Since beginning deliveries in September this year, Tesla has already sold 109 vehicles in India. Along with this, the brand is planning to install charging points at homes, malls, hotels and other high-traffic locations, while also setting up supercharger networks in major cities to make EV adoption more convenient.

Sharad Agarwal, General Manager of Tesla India, said:

“Our goal is to make charging accessible everywhere across major cities. We design our infrastructure around the lifestyle of our customers.”

First Tesla Centre Opens in Gurugram

On Wednesday, Tesla opened its first full-service Tesla Centre at Orchid Business Park, Gurugram. This facility is designed as an all-in-one location where customers can:

  • Purchase a Tesla

  • Take delivery

  • Service their vehicle

  • Access charging facilities

In short, all services will be available under one roof.

Agarwal confirmed that three Tesla superchargers are currently operational in Delhi and Mumbai, and an additional supercharger will be activated soon in Gurugram.

Pushing Sustainability & Reducing Urban Pollution

Agarwal highlighted that cities like Delhi and Mumbai urgently need electric vehicles to improve air quality and reduce pollution. He stated that Tesla has sold over 8 million cars globally, helping reduce around 32 million tonnes of carbon emissions—a major step toward environmental sustainability.

He emphasized that India needs such solutions now more than ever, especially due to deteriorating air quality causing health issues on a large scale.

Tesla’s mission, he added, is to accelerate the world’s transition towards sustainable energy. The company's model involves direct-to-customer sales, making the buying process simpler and more transparent compared to conventional dealership models.

Expanding Charging Infrastructure Across India

Tesla has started delivery of the Model Y in India and is now working towards increasing its footprint across more cities. The company plans to collaborate with hotels and commercial establishments to install charging stations, ensuring that visitors can charge their EVs easily.

The upcoming Gurugram charging hub will bring the total to four Tesla charging stations in India, including:

  • 16 Superchargers

  • 10 Destination Chargers

Tesla is designing these stations so customers can charge their vehicles while continuing their daily activities, making EV driving more convenient than ever.
