News Synopsis

Taylor Fritz has managed to end Rafa Nadal's 20-game streak with a 6-3 7-6(5) victory in the Indian Wells final on Sunday. With this victory, Taylor Fritz became the first American to win the battle ever since the victory of Andrea Agassi over two decades ago.

Fritz said that he had doubts he could even take to the court due to an injured ankle and had never before experienced such pain prior to a match. But he decided to gut it out and was rewarded with the biggest win of his career fighting against the 21-time Grand Slam winner.

While Fritz was suffering from an injured ankle, Nadal was also struggling with a chest issue, he picked up during an epic three-set final battle with 18-year-old compatriot Carlos Alcaraz. Nadal also announced last week that he will not be participating in the Miami Open, followed by the Indian Wells tournament.

Fritz reorganized and stopped Nadal's rally on his third break to gain the advantage of the set. At the end of the opening set, Nadal demanded a medical time-out and returned to court with a new intention. Nadal, one of the great candidates for the game, pushed the second set into a tie-breaker, but eventually found that the big-serving American proved too strong.
