Tata Sierra Set to Make a Comeback After 20 Years
News Synopsis
Tata Motors is gearing up to launch its all-new Tata Sierra SUV, marking the grand return of an iconic nameplate that once ruled Indian roads. The SUV, first showcased in concept form at the 2023 Auto Expo, is one of the most anticipated vehicles in the Indian passenger car market. The new Sierra will make its official debut on November 25 in a completely modern and redesigned avatar.
Interestingly, the new Tata Sierra will retain design elements reminiscent of the original model that was popular between 1991 and 2003, evoking nostalgia among Indian customers. According to the company, Tata will first launch the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) variant on November 25, while an electric version will follow at a later date.
Tata Sierra Iconic Yet Modern Design
The biggest highlight of the upcoming Tata Sierra is its iconic design philosophy, featuring the signature Alpine window, which was a defining element of the original model. Tata Motors has skillfully blended classic design cues with a modern aesthetic to create a visually striking SUV. Expected features include LED projector headlamps, LED fog lamps, LED DRLs, LED taillamps, functional roof rails, and sporty 19-inch alloy wheels.
Premium Interior with Advanced Features
Positioned as a premium SUV, the new Tata Sierra will come loaded with advanced technology and comfort-oriented features. To meet evolving consumer preferences, the company will offer features such as a Level 2 ADAS suite, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and several other high-tech luxury additions, making it one of the most technologically advanced SUVs in its segment.
Three Powertrain Options
The Tata Sierra will be launched with multiple powertrain options — petrol, diesel, and electric. The petrol variant will feature Tata’s new 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, which was showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. Entry-level variants may come with a naturally aspirated (NA) version of the same engine. The diesel variant will use the 1.5-litre diesel engine currently found in the Tata Curvv.
Expected Price and Rivals
The new Tata Sierra will be positioned between the Tata Curvv and Tata Harrier in the company’s SUV lineup. Its starting price (ex-showroom) is expected to be around ₹12 lakh. In the mid-size SUV segment, it will compete with popular models such as the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, and Kia Seltos.
