News Synopsis

One of the biggest Direct to home providers of the Country- Tata Sky a few weeks back changed its name to Tata Play. Tata Play claims to have 19 million lively subscribers. Now the company has announced that it is voluntarily going to downgrade its monthly plans for almost half of its users. This is the first of a kind decision from any DTH service provider in the country. This will lower the company’s average revenue per user (ARPU) as its users will be able to save between Rs. 30 to 100 per month. Harit Nagpal, Managing Director of Tata Play in his statement said: “Lot of our subscribers are being erratic in their recharges. Some are only recharging when they have compelling content. Earlier, we had more people upsizing and less downsizing their plans, now it’s the opposite. So, after looking at all the data, we have identified that it’s time to take some right measures to help our subscribers.” He also informed that this will be implemented by the end of this week. He further said: “We are not doing this randomly; it will be based on customer’s usage and only the channels/ bouquets they don’t consume will be dropped.”
