News Synopsis

The homegrown automaker Tata Motors has announced the launch of Re.Wi.Re, its first Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF), in the Rajasthani city of Jaipur.

Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, officially inaugurated the facility, which has a 15,000-vehicle annual capacity. The Re.Wi.Re. facility is made to dismantle obsolete commercial and passenger vehicles of all brands. The Motor Vehicle Act requires vehicle scrappage in order to get old, polluting  cars off the road.

The facility contains specific stations for the safe dismantling of parts including tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, liquids, and gases, and is entirely digitalized for paperless operations. Each vehicle is carefully inspected for passenger and commercial vehicle requirements before going through a rigorous documentation and disassembly process. Tata Motors, employs world-class, eco-friendly processes for the safe and sustainable dismantling of end-of-life vehicles.

Ganganagar Vaahan Udyog Pvt. Ltd., a partner of Tata Motors, constructed and runs the facility to dispose of end-of-life passenger and commercial cars of all brands.

The National Vehicle Scrappage Policy was introduced with the aim to promote circular economy by creating an ecosystem for phasing out unfit and polluting vehicles and to achieve a lower carbon footprint in the country by replacing them with greener and more fuel-efficient vehicles, said Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, at the launch of Tata Motors' first Re.Wi.Re RVSF. I congratulate Tata Motors for building this high-quality plant that meets international standards. We are working towards making India a center for the entire South Asian region's vehicle recycling, and we require more of these cutting-edge recycling and scrapping facilities there.

Tata Motors Managing Director Girish Wagh stated, "At Tata Motors, we are committed to delving into every aspect of mobility to make it greener and sustainable. The inauguration of this RVSF (Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility) heralds a new beginning in the responsible scrapping of end-of-life vehicles. With globally benchmarked and optimized recycling processes, we intend to yield maximum value from the scrap for future use and minimize waste for the overall betterment.

We appreciate the visionary efforts of Shri Gadkari ji in enabling the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy and look forward to setting up Re.Wi.Re facilities across the country in collaboration with our partners. These decentralized facilities will benefit the customers, share the economic value generated, and create employment while addressing the need for scrapping vehicles in every part of the country in an eco-friendly manner.
