News Synopsis

The Asia Pacific tablet market will reach 57.2 million units in 2022, with pandemic-related purchases boosting consumer demand in the first half of this year.

According to IDC, the supply side of the region is also expected to improve, benefiting from the entry of new suppliers and improved supply conditions for other major suppliers.

In 2021, the tablet market in the Asia-Pacific region (including Japan and China) recorded a year-on-year increase of 12.9%, reaching 56.4 million units. Tablet shipments are expected to increase by 1.5% in 2022 with improved supply and continued strong demand.

According to global market research firms, consumer shipments in 2021 reached 43 million units, up 20.7% year-on-year. In 2021, several new brands entered the Android tablet market, including Xiaomi, Realme, Nokia, and Motorola, which launched new tablet models. Other new entrants will launch their tablets in 2022, including OPPO and in Vivo.

Jennifer Kwan, senior market analyst for Client Devices Research at IDC Asia-Pacific has said, “It's interesting to see more smartphone vendors stepping into the tablet market. It helps ease the supply challenges and provides more product variety. We can expect the competition in the Android market to be fierce in 2022.”
