News Synopsis

Now students who get a CGPA score of 7.5/10 in the Four Years Graduation Course will be able to pursue a Ph.D. degree. As per the new rules, students will be eligible for Ph.D. admission without completing a Master's degree. This rule has been finalized by the University Grants Commission. This rule is likely to be announced by the UGC by the end of June. Along with this, it is also expected that this rule will be implemented from the upcoming 2022-23 academic session.

Let us inform you that while promoting the FYUP launched under the National Education Policy, the Regulations state that a candidate seeking admission after 4 years / 8 semesters of Bachelor's degree must have a minimum CGPA of 7.5/10 needed. There is a relaxation of 0.5 CGPA for SC/ST/OBC/PWD and Economically Weaker Section candidates.

In this regard, UGC President M Jagadesh Kumar said that encouraging four-year graduate students to pursue Ph.D. is the key to improving the research ecosystem in our HEIS and that is why we are working on the four-year program. UG is allowing Ph.D. students who have a CGPA of 7.5/10 or above. He will be eligible for Ph.D. admission. Whereas, those who have a CGPA of less than 7.5, will have to do a one-year master's degree.
