News Synopsis

Indian startups raised $8 billion in the first two months of 2022. This means that almost $1 billion has been invested in the startup ecosystem every week in January and February.

Indian startups had 277 deals in the first two months of 2022. Among them are Nykaa's rival Purple, Reliance backed Dunzo, Zomato's rival Swiggy and others.

The startup ecosystem has raised $42 billion in 1,579 deals throughout 2021 and $11.5 billion in 924 deals in 2020. The ecosystem also witnessed the entry of 10 new startups into the unicorn club. 

The startup turned unicorn in 2022 include Fractal, DarwinBox, Hasura and Uniphore, edtech company Lead School, logistics company XpressBees, and e-commerce platforms Livspace, Dealshare and ElasticRun.

Direct-to-consumer (D2C) Mamaearth also joined the unicorn club on January 1 of this year. However, this was reported in the media based on the regulatory documents of the company. 

According to data from Venture Intelligence, India is currently home to 91 unicorns. This includes companies like BharatPe, Cred, Groww, Zerodha, Upstox, Spinny, Cars24, ShareChat and more.
