News Synopsis

Japanese tech company Sony is preparing premium smartphones with the best camera features. Sony as a smartphone brand is not as big as it used to be years ago, but the company is working on improving its position in the smartphone market.

A new report coming out of Nikkei has indicated that Sony believes that its new technology will be introduced in smartphones. Even in a few years, it is planning to suppress DSLR and mirrorless cameras. Terushi Shimizu, President and CEO of Sony Semiconductor Solutions (SSS) said during a recent briefing that "still photo-image quality of single-lens reflex single-lens reflex cameras in the next few years". Will be more than the quality of cameras."

A briefing refers to 2024 as the timeline where Sony sees smartphones exceeding ILC image quality. It will be interesting to see how Sony lives up to this claim. The company has already launched the Xperia Pro I with a 1-inch 20-megapixel camera sensor, but due to the lack of distance between lens and sensor, the company's premium smartphones usually use a 12-megapixel sensor. While it is not known when this will happen on the smartphone, the technology has already been seen in Sony's flagship mirrorless cameras.
