ShareChat's Valuation Crosses $5 Billion

News Synopsis

ShareChat has completed multi-tranche funding round, raising a total of $520 million at a $5 billion valuation, according to the social media company.

In the last tranche, ShareChat welcomed Google and Times Group as new investors. Temasek has joined again, adding $255 million. In the first half of the December 2021 round, ShareChat raised $266 million from Alkeon Capital, Temasek, HarbourVest, Moore Strategic Ventures, and India Quotient.

ShareChat, which was valued at $1 billion last year to give it unicorn status,  raised a total of $913 million in 2021. It was the highest-funded company that became a unicorn that year.

ShareChat (Mohalla Tech) also operates India's largest short video platforms, Moj and TakaTak. Together, it powers more than 400 million users. The company said it has created a variety of monetization tools that go beyond advertising in areas such as virtual gifts and video commerce.

According to the company, voice-based Live Hangouts streams 2 billion minutes of voice each month. Moj has become a social commerce platform through an exclusive partnership with Flipkart.
