News Synopsis

While 5G communication networks are in the process of commercialization and often face user complaints about quality and speed, Sebastian Seung, president and head of Samsung Research says it is time to start preparing for 6G, according to reports.

Samsung previously published a white paper outlining its 6G vision. It features ultra-wideband, ultra-low latency, ultra-intelligence, hyperspace, and ways to protect the 6G global frequency band.

6G would require a continuous ultra-wideband bandwidth spectrum ranging from hundreds of MHz to tens of GHz to enable new services such as high-fidelity mobile holograms and truly immersive extended reality (XR) featuring ultra-fast communication and big data.

Charlie Zhang, Senior Vice President of Samsung Research America, said 6G technology is still in its infancy, but several new directions have been shaped and gaining momentum in both academia and industry.

The Korean technology giant is working to develop a unified global standard for mobile communications. This is one of the first commercialization of 5G in April 2019.

6G standardization was expected to be realized around 2025. Samsung says it heralds the arrival of a hyper-connected world by increasing speeds and enabling mobile-based virtual reality experiences.
