Russian President Vladimir Putin to join the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics

News Synopsis

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin will attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics and will also have a meeting with the Chinese President Xi Jinping on February 4.

Sergey Lavrov also said that the meeting will cover the whole spectrum of Russia-China relations. The Russian Foreign Minister will also have a meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on February 3. 

The Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan will also attend the Winter Olympics opening ceremony. On the other side, many of the western countries are boycotting the Beijing Winter Olympics due to the poor human rights of Uyghurs and Tibetians of China. 

The USA, Britain, Australia, and Canada have already announced a diplomatic boycott of the event, and recently North Korea has also pulled out from Beijing Winter Olympics due to the rising cases of the Omicron variant.
