News Synopsis

According to a report issued by Reuters, a Russian law firm has sued the United States-based tech giant Apple. The law firm is seeking $1.26 million (90 million roubles) in damages from Apple after the tech company halted its payment service from Russia. On Friday, as per Reuters, the Law firm Chernyshov, Lukoyanov, and Partners located in Moscow informed that it is suing the tech giant while accusing it of violating Russian consumers' rights when it restricted the use of its Apple Pay service.

The tech company in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine stopped all product sales in Russia and suspended some services including Apple Pay in the month of March. Following the invasion, several companies pulled out of Russia. These companies include brands like McDonald's, Goldman Sachs, and Uniqlo. Reuters further informed that the Russian law firm told that it filed the lawsuit in a court in the Russian Capital and is seeking compensation for damages including "moral damage,". The law firm elaborated that restricting services decreased the value of Apple devices, which under the Russian law was unfair and discriminatory. Additionally, the law firm is also inviting claimants to join the lawsuit which could raise the total damages sought by it.
