News Synopsis

Shortly after being suspended from the Unites Nations Humans Right Council, Russia told it is quitting the UNHRC. Russia was suspended after several of its war crimes emerged in Ukraine. In the United Nations General Assembly, 93 countries voted in favor of the proposal while 24 opposed it. 58 countries refrained from the voting process. UN regulations require a two-thirds majority of voters to expel or suspend members. This proposal was moved in the General Assembly of the United Nations after more than 300 civilian deaths were reported during Russia's occupation of Bucha, Ukraine. Despite substantial evidence indicating Russia committed the massacre, it has denied all allegations and called it Ukrainian Propaganda.

Reuters reported that after the suspension from UNHRC, Russia said it is entirely quitting the UN body. Russia's ambassador to the UN, Gennady Kuzmin called the suspension an "illegitimate and politically motivated step." Ukraine's ambassador to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya after the suspension of Russia said: "You do not submit your resignation after you are fired.” Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US envoy to the UN said that the UN's suspension sends "a clear message that the suffering of victims and survivors will not be ignored."
