News Synopsis

Athletes from Russia and Belarus were banned from the multi-sport European Championships in August. But now the organizers of the multi-sport Euro Championship in Munich, Germany, said they supported the decision of nine individual sports officials not to invite Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials. They follow the guidelines of the International Olympic Committee.

"We are united by condemning Russia's war with Ukraine," said Libor Varhank, chairman of the Organizing Committee. Sports are canoeing, cycling, gymnastics, rowing, sport climbing, table tennis, athletics, triathlon and volleyball.

Swimming is an exception to Olympic sports when it comes to allowing Russians to continue to compete, but it is not part of the European Championship's collective format introduced in 2018.
