News Synopsis

Telecom Branch of Reliance Industries ltd., Jio Platforms Ltd has announced that they have collaborated with, SES, a global satellite-based content connectivity solutions provider to provide satellite-based broadband services. Jio Platforms  will own 51% and SES, 49% in this joint venture. In an exchange filing today, RIL said, “The joint venture will use multi-orbit space networks that is a combination of geostationary (GEO) and medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite constellations capable of delivering multi-gigabit links and capacity to enterprises, mobile backhaul and retail customers across the length and breadth of India and neighbouring regions”. This joint venture will provide satellite connectivity in the country except for some international aeronautical and maritime customers. In January this year, Jio's rival Airtel had announced JV with Hughes Communications India to provide satellite broadband services in India, to offer flexible and scalable enterprise networking solutions using satellite connectivity.
