News Synopsis

The online discussion forum Reddit categorically prohibits users around the world from posting links to Russian state-sponsored media such as Russia Today and Sputnik or placing Russian advertisements on the platform.

After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, major tech companies including Apple, Meta, Microsoft, Google, Twitter and several other platforms have already banned the state-owned media outlet of Russia.

The company has said in a statement that the platform has made restrictions on the Russian state-owned media outlets universal across all geographies. It has also said that the platform will not be accepting advertisements targeting Russia or the ones that are originated from any Russia-based entity, either government or private.

Reddit is inactive to moderators and communities, especially those who are most affected by the conflict, to provide support, resources, and dedicated tools to keep it functioning uninterrupted.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram has also expanded the ban globally on its platforms in order to stop the misinformation. Spotify, the Swedish music streaming giant has also shut down its office in Russia and has removed the content of Russian state-own media outlets.
