News Synopsis

Ratan Tata, a pioneer in the field, on Tuesday unveiled Goodfellows, a firm that offers senior folks companionship services. The company's mission is to create lasting friendships between seniors and youngsters. It offers every service a grandchild might offer.

Ratan Tata, the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, provided seed money for the platform in an unknown amount. Goodfellows completed a successful beta test over the course of six months, the firm said in a statement. " Goodfellows will now be available in Mumbai with Pune, Chennai, and Bangalore as the next target cities," it added.

According to the statement, 15 million old people in India are living alone, either because they have lost a partner or because their families had to move away owing to unavoidable employment obligations. The problem of loneliness or a lack of companionship, which has been the main factor contributing to the decline in the mental and physical health of senior adults, will be addressed by Goodfellows. "The connections made by Goodfellows between the two generations are deeply meaningful and are assisting in resolving a significant societal issue in India. Ratan Tata remarked, "I hope the investment helps the young team at Goodfellows develop.

Over 800 young graduates applied for jobs at Goodfellows during the beta testing period, and 20 of them made the final cut to provide companionship to the elderly in the area. "The startup emphasises that different people define companionship differently. We can accommodate all of it, whether that means for some people it involves watching a movie, sharing old tales, going on a stroll, or simply sitting around doing nothing at all. Our commitment to this idea is further bolstered by Mr. Tata's additional investment in our business, according to Shantanu Naidu, founder and general manager of Goodfellows. The site will also hold regular gatherings for its users to attend in order to strengthen ties and have fun in a different setting.
