News Synopsis

Rapido, the homegrown mobility platform, is gearing up to launch a unified ticketing solution that will make commuting on the Delhi Metro more seamless. This upcoming feature aims to cover the entire journey — from home to destination — with a single ticket that includes both Rapido rides and metro fare.

Seamless Travel from First Mile to Last Mile

According to Rapido co-founder Aravind Sanka, the company plans to facilitate the first-mile ride from a user’s location to the metro station and the last-mile drop from the metro station to the final destination. This integrated service is intended to make metro travel more convenient, eliminating the need for separate bookings for bike rides and metro tickets.

“The long-term plan is to offer a single ticket that includes the Rapido bike ride and the metro fare, making the entire journey seamless,” Sanka shared. While no specific launch date was revealed, he noted that the company will roll out the unified ticket once its metro ticketing feature gains sufficient traction.

Metro Ticket Booking via Rapido App

Currently, Rapido users can already book Delhi Metro tickets directly through the app. This functionality is enabled through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), a government-backed platform that promotes digital commerce in India. The move aligns with Rapido’s broader goal of integrating different transport modes into a single app, offering greater convenience to urban commuters.

Affordable First- and Last-Mile Ride Options

In addition to unified ticketing, Rapido has introduced affordable ride options for those traveling to and from metro stations. The company will provide rides at a fixed fare of ₹25 for up to 3 kilometers. To improve the user experience, designated pick-up and drop-off points will be set up at selected metro stations across Delhi NCR.

Moreover, to encourage adoption of the service, Rapido is offering a free first ride to users who book their Delhi Metro tickets through the Rapido app.

Rapido’s Entry Into the Food Delivery Market

Beyond mobility services, Rapido is expanding its operations into food delivery. The company has started piloting food delivery services in select areas of Bengaluru. Rapido plans to utilize its existing pool of riders for this service, aiming to give them more earning opportunities by combining ride-hailing, logistics, and food delivery tasks.

While this strategy could help maximize rider productivity, industry analysts have pointed out potential challenges. Combining food delivery with ride services could lead to delays, especially at a time when customers are increasingly demanding faster deliveries.

Scaling Operations Based on Demand

Rapido’s co-founder highlighted that the company will monitor regional demand closely and hire additional riders where necessary. This flexible approach will help Rapido manage workloads and meet customer expectations across different service categories.

However, Sanka confirmed that the company currently has no plans to venture into three-wheeler or four-wheeler logistics. Rapido will continue focusing on two-wheeler parcel deliveries, a segment where it has already established a strong presence.

Strengthening Urban Mobility and Earning Opportunities

Through these new initiatives, Rapido aims to strengthen its position as a key player in urban mobility. By offering integrated ticketing, affordable rides, and expanded services like food delivery, the company seeks to provide commuters with hassle-free solutions while creating more earning potential for its rider network.

As Rapido scales these offerings, it is likely to influence how multi-modal transport solutions and hyperlocal deliveries evolve in Indian cities.
