News Synopsis

The chipmaker Qualcomm has announced a new technology under a collaboration with Vodafone and France based Thales. The new technology is called iSIM. It would allow using the limited space in smartphones effectively.

The technology is an evolution of eSIM, which is currently available in many smartphones including the iPhone 13 series, Samsung’s Galaxy S20 series, and Pixel phones.

iSIM will save space in the devices like smartphones, wearables, virtual reality headsets and other Internet of Things devices along with allowing to carry remotely provisioned SIM cards with the use of already existing eSIM infrastructure.

Qualcomm has also said that iSIM is integrated into the processor itself, and does not require an extra SIM card slot. The company also claims that it would allow better performance, better system integration and will increase the memory capacity.
