News Synopsis

India's top Badminton Player P V Sindhu has once again made her country proud by bagging the title of Singapore Open Super 500 championship by defeating Wang Zhi Yi of China. It was Sindhu's third victory on a world tour this year.

In an error-filled match, Sindhu persevered in crucial situations to defeat Wang, the 22-year-old reigning Asian Championships gold medalist, and secure a 21-9, 11-21, 21-15 triumph. Having defeated Wang in their lone encounter at the All England Championships this year, Sindhu, 27, entered the contest leading Wang 1-0.

The players faced a difficult challenge as a result of the hall's drift, therefore the toss was crucial to the outcome of the game. Wang was in a good position to play against the drift following the final change of ends thanks to her choice of side. However, Sindhu was able to control her mistakes and maintain her composure to win.

Sindhu used her reach to get the shuttle early in the first game after dropping the first two points, played some excellent angled returns, and delivered multiple winners to maintain the lead. The Indian was able to take her shots while Wang hit them wide and long because she was playing against the drift. Sindhu scored 11 points in a row to take a commanding 11-2 lead at halftime. After play resumed, the Indian kept a tight hold on the match and quickly won the first game.

But in the second game, Wang, who was now on the better side of the court, showed off her talent as Sindhu lost ground. Due to Sindhu's persistent unforced errors, the Chinese quickly took an 11-3 lead. Sindhu attempted to stage a comeback by attempting a spinning net shot and taking advantage of any openings on the court, but the points were hard to come by as Wang maintained to lead. At 8-15 and with her opponent on the ground, Sindhu was unable to complete a feeble return.Wang eventually used a leap smash to gain 10 game points, which she converted on her second try to tie the match.

The championship game was hotly contested and had some protracted rallies. While Wang initially appeared to be fired up, Sindhu remained calm and secured a five-point lead at the break after hitting an excellent cross-court smash from a deep forehand corner.

After the last switch of ends, Wang got back on top and forced errors from Sindhu to cut the score to 11–12.

The Indian, though, used a strong follow-up stroke to gain a four-point advantage. To continue to put pressure on Sindhu, Wang came up with precise drop shots and hold-and-disguise pushes. Before Wang put one in the net, Sindhu had taken an 18-14 lead after handling the pressure admirably.

Sindhu hit long before launching a smash to end a tight rally and secure five match points when she was only two points away. On the ensuing point, Wang missed wide, and Sindhu raised her arms in celebration of winning the match and the title.

For Sindhu, who will spearhead India's effort at the Commonwealth Games, which get underway on July 28 in Birmingham, the title run will be a major lift. This was her third championship of the year after winning the Super 300 titles at the Syed Modi International and Swiss Open. Her trophy case is already overflowing with two Olympic medals as well as gold, silver, and bronze medals from the World Championships.
