News Synopsis

Prime Focus-backed Brahma AI has raised ₹1,437 crore in fresh funding at a $2 billion valuation, accelerating generative AI research, product development and global expansion.

Brahma AI Raises ₹1,437 Crore at $2 Billion Valuation

Brahma AI, the enterprise-focused generative artificial intelligence platform backed by Prime Focus, has secured $150 million, or approximately ₹1,437 crore, in a new funding round.

The investment values the company at around $2 billion on a post-money basis, marking a significant milestone for the AI venture as it expands its technology and international operations.

The funding round was led by Multiples Alternate Asset Management, with the investment structured primarily through preferred shares.

Multiples Commits $100 Million

Multiples has committed $100 million, equivalent to about ₹958 crore, through preferred shares as part of the latest funding transaction.

Brahma AI has also received interest for another $100 million from investors, potentially allowing the company to increase the size of the funding round.

The transaction was disclosed by Prime Focus in a stock exchange filing dated September 23.

Prime Focus to Retain Majority Economic Stake

Following the transaction, Prime Focus is expected to retain approximately 66% economic ownership in Brahma AI through its UK-based visual effects subsidiary, DNEG.

However, Prime Focus' voting rights will decline to 24.99%. As a result, Brahma AI will no longer be consolidated as a subsidiary of Prime Focus.

The structure allows Prime Focus to continue holding a substantial economic interest in the AI business while providing Brahma AI with greater independence as it raises external capital and expands its operations.

Brahma AI to Increase AI Research and Development

Brahma AI Founder and CEO Prabhu Narasimhan said the fresh funding will primarily support research and development. A key focus will be the development of interactive digital humans and the expansion of the company's generative AI capabilities.

The company plans to invest in technologies that can help enterprises produce and manage sophisticated AI-generated audiovisual content while maintaining brand consistency and security.

Expansion of US Operations

Part of the new capital will also be used to strengthen Brahma AI's go-to-market operations in the United States. The company intends to accelerate product development as demand grows for secure, enterprise-focused AI-generated content.

The funding is therefore expected to support both technology development and commercial expansion.

What Is Brahma AI?

Brahma AI describes itself as an AI-native operating system for enterprise audiovisual content.

Its technology combines generative artificial intelligence with advanced media and content-production capabilities to help organisations create, manage and distribute video, audio and immersive experiences at scale.

The platform is designed for industries where high-quality audiovisual content and localisation are important, including entertainment, sports, healthcare and advertising.

ATMAN and VAANI Platforms

Brahma AI's technology portfolio includes ATMAN, a photorealistic digital-human engine, and VAANI, a multilingual voice and lip-sync localisation platform.

These tools are designed to help businesses produce digital characters, multilingual content and localised audiovisual experiences.

The company has secured global customers including Warner Bros., the NBA and Mayo Clinic, according to the information provided.

Brahma AI's Evolution From Prime Focus Technology

The company developed from Prime Focus' CLEAR AI media asset management system. Over time, the platform evolved into a broader AI-focused business targeting enterprise audiovisual workflows.

Brahma AI has also received recognition for its AI-powered media technology, including a Technology & Engineering Emmy Award.

AI-Powered Localisation for Ramayana

One of Brahma AI's prominent applications is its work on Ramayana, where its technology is being used to support multilingual localisation.

Its VAANI platform can synchronise translated dialogue with an actor's mouth movements while retaining the original performance and voice characteristics.

The technology is intended to help the film reach international audiences across numerous languages while maintaining a consistent viewing experience.

Voice and Lip-Sync Technology

AI-powered post-dubbing allows dialogue to be adapted for different languages without relying solely on traditional dubbing methods.

Brahma AI's technology can modify lip movements to correspond with translated dialogue, helping create a more natural-looking multilingual version.

The company has said this technology is central to plans for releasing Ramayana in nearly 50 languages.

Prime Focus Separates AI Growth From Core Business

The latest funding arrangement also represents a strategic shift for Prime Focus.

By reducing its voting control while retaining a majority economic interest, Prime Focus can allow Brahma AI to pursue external funding and expand independently from its established visual effects and animation operations.

The structure could also provide Brahma AI with greater flexibility for future fundraising, strategic partnerships or a potential public listing.

Conclusion

Brahma AI's $150 million funding round at a $2 billion valuation strengthens its position in the enterprise generative AI market. The fresh capital will support research, digital-human technology, product development and expansion in the US, while Prime Focus continues to retain a substantial economic interest.
