Pralhad Joshi Inaugurates CBSE Experience Centre in New Delhi to Promote Experiential Learning

CBSE Experience Centre Opens at Dwarka Complex

Union Minister for Education Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the CBSE Experience Centre at the CBSE Integrated Complex in Dwarka, New Delhi, on Tuesday. The initiative aims to make school education more interactive, practical and relevant to students’ future needs.

Located at the headquarters of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the centre offers an immersive educational environment that extends beyond conventional classroom teaching. Students can explore the history of education, interact with emerging technologies and discover potential career pathways.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Education, the centre is designed to encourage curiosity and provide students with opportunities to learn through observation, participation and practical experiences.

Joshi expressed confidence that the initiative would help make education more engaging and student-focused. He also highlighted the importance of developing creativity, confidence and problem-solving abilities to prepare young people for India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Pralhad Joshi Emphasises Learning Beyond Textbooks

Addressing the gathering, Joshi called for a shift away from rote memorisation and an excessive emphasis on examination results. He said the education system should recognise students’ individual interests, abilities and learning styles.

According to the minister, education should enable students to understand concepts, apply their knowledge in real-life situations and develop confidence through practical learning.

He noted that the CBSE Experience Centre aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes experiential, holistic and multidisciplinary education.

Such initiatives can encourage independent thinking, creativity and curiosity while helping students develop the skills needed to respond to future challenges.

Joshi stressed that education should prepare students not only for examinations but also for meaningful participation in society and the country's development.

Government Plans 50,000 Additional Atal Tinkering Labs

Highlighting the importance of hands-on learning, Joshi said students should have opportunities to observe scientific principles, conduct experiments and understand how concepts work in practice.

He referred to the contribution of Atal Tinkering Labs in promoting innovation, scientific thinking and experimentation among school students. According to his remarks, 10,000 such laboratories were already operational across the country, and the government had decided to establish another 50,000.

The proposed expansion is intended to give more students access to practical activities and opportunities to develop innovative ideas.

The minister also highlighted India's growing potential in technology, manufacturing and research. He said students must be equipped with the knowledge, technical abilities and values required to succeed in an evolving global workforce.

Referring to the recently launched Seva First Innovation Challenge, Joshi underlined the importance of experimentation and problem-solving in nurturing future innovators.

Centre Features 12 Zones and 21 Interactive Exhibits

The CBSE Experience Centre covers approximately 6,000 square feet and contains 12 thematic zones with 21 exhibits. Its design connects India's educational heritage with contemporary learning methods and emerging career opportunities.

Visitors can use radio-frequency identification (RFID)-enabled smart cards to interact with exhibits, participate in activities and access personalised takeaways. The centre also incorporates game-based leaderboards to make the learning experience more engaging.

One of its opening experiences, titled ‘Shiksha Ki Kahani’, presents the development of education in India through a film narrated using a representational voice of the river Saraswati.

The presentation traces the journey from the ancient gurukul tradition and historic institutions such as Nalanda to modern schools and digital classrooms. It also highlights the role of present-day students in carrying India's educational legacy forward.

Another section presents the history of CBSE through archival photographs and historical material, including records dating back to 1935.

The centre also features an interactive geological timeline that introduces visitors to Earth's history across millions of years.

Interactive Career Exhibits Help Students Explore Future Opportunities

Career awareness is a key element of the centre's design. Exhibits such as ‘Career Explorer’, ‘Future of Professions’ and ‘Magic Mirror: Future You’ allow students to explore different occupations and consider how professional roles may evolve as technology advances.

These experiences are intended to help students understand potential career paths and the skills that may be required in the future.

The centre also features holographic interactions with eminent Indian personalities, including Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. These exhibits provide an engaging way to introduce students to influential figures and their contributions.

A dedicated kiosk based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's book Exam Warriors focuses on developing a healthier attitude towards examinations. It highlights confidence, stress management and a positive approach to academic challenges.

Together, these exhibits aim to connect classroom knowledge with personal development, career planning and practical understanding.

‘Eduverse’ Connects Students With Nature and the Universe

The final experience, called ‘Eduverse’, uses motion-based interaction and multisensory elements to take visitors through different natural environments.

The journey includes forests, oceans and the Himalayas before extending to the Moon and other planets. By combining visual elements with interactive technology, the exhibit offers students an engaging way to explore the natural world and space.

The experience concludes by returning to Earth and emphasising the interconnectedness of natural systems. Its central message is that humans are part of a shared living planet and have a role in understanding and protecting it.

CBSE Centre Supports Future-Ready Education

The inauguration of the CBSE Experience Centre reflects efforts to make education more experiential and learner-oriented. Through interactive exhibits, career exploration and technology-enabled activities, the facility seeks to complement traditional classroom teaching.

Combined with initiatives such as Atal Tinkering Labs, the centre supports the broader goal of developing students' creativity, scientific thinking and practical skills.

As India works towards its 2047 development vision, such educational initiatives aim to prepare young people for emerging opportunities in technology, innovation and the changing world of work.
