PM Narendra Modi Meets Nokia President And CEO Pekka Lundmark

At a "fruitful meeting," Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed next-generation digital infrastructure with Nokia President and CEO Pekka Lundmark.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister confirmed the development.

Prime Minister Modi stated on Twitter, "A fruitful meeting with Mr. Pekka Lundmark in which we discussed aspects relating to technology and leveraging it for the welfare of society. We also discussed India's strides in building next-generation digital infrastructure."

According to the Nokia President and CEO, the two spoke extensively about how Nokia can contribute to India's 5G journey and the next phase of digital transformation. They also discussed Nokia's possible contributions to India's 6G ambitions.

Nokia's Chief Strategy and Technology Officer, Nishant Batra, stated that the company is optimistic about India's 5G prospects. He also stated that the company's manufacturing is shifting towards India. According to a news agency, he said, "India is emerging as a big digital opportunity of this decade. From infrastructure which is 5G, to application to the whole technology stack."

Due to the fast 5G rollout, India was Nokia's second most recent market during the December 2022 quarter. According to Batra, Nokia would be highly busy in the Indian market for the next 2.5 to 4 years if the country's 5G deployment continues at the current rate.

Not only Nokia, but Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who predicted that India will be the "cheapest 5G market in the future," praised India's digital network. He also stated that India has a large number of smartphone users and that the nation has opened up transactions on feature phones.

Gates stated during a session conducted under India's G20 presidency, "The connectivity has been very good, it is very reliable, it is the cheapest in the world. And the same thing is going to happen in 5G. There is no doubt this will be the cheapest 5G market."
