News Synopsis

Indian Government has passed many I.T. acts to regulate content on social media and to ensure privacy. New laws similar to these are still in the making. Famous microblogging platform Twitter Inc. has expressed its concern over the possibility of penalties on the website if they fail to remove certain content according to the laws. Prior to Twitter, Alphabet Inc. and Meta have also expressed their concerns. Twitter on Feb 16 in SEC filing said: “We are subject to legislation in Germany that may impose significant fines for failure to comply with certain content removal and disclosure obligations. Other countries, including Brazil, Turkey, Singapore, India, Australia, and the United Kingdom, have implemented or are considering similar legislation imposing penalties for failure to remove certain types of content”. Twitter has been in conflict with the Indian government since last year when it didn't comply with the Indian rules in a few instances.
