News Synopsis

Oscars 2023: The 95th Academy Award in Oscar-2023 was announced yesterday. The film 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' dominated the event held in the Hollywood city of Los Angeles. The film won not one or two but seven awards. Apart from this, today was also a very special day for India. India won Oscar awards in two categories.

The Elephant Whisperers, directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga, has won the Best Documentary Short Film at the 95th Academy Awards. The other four nominated films in the category were Hallout, The Martha Mitchell Effect, Stranger at the Gate, and How Do You Measure a Year.

The Elephant Whispers is the first Indian film to win an Oscar in this category and the third film to be nominated after The House That Anand Built and An Encounter with Faces which competed for Best Documentary Short Film in 1969 and 1979 respectively. Director Karthick Gonsalves and producer Guneet Monga accepted the award on stage.

Produced by Achin Jain and Guneet Monga, and directed by Kartiki Gonsalves, the 41-minute short film follows a family from Tamil Nadu's Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, who adopt two orphaned baby elephants. The special thing about this short documentary was that it was the directorial debut of filmmaker Gonsalves. The Elephant Whispers, set in the Mudumalai National Park, is the story of an orphaned baby elephant named Raghu in the care of a married couple Bomman and Bela. The documentary not only brilliantly captures the bond that develops between them but also celebrates the natural beauty around them. Elephant Whispers was released on Netflix in December 2022.

Apart from this, another moment was named after India at the Oscars. The globally viral Naatu Naatu from SS Rajamouli's blockbuster film RRR won the Best Original Song award. The song Naatu Naatu from RRR won the Golden Globe Award in the Best Original Song category earlier this year.

The Telugu film RRR is directed by SS Rajamouli and stars Ram Charan and Jr NTR. All of them attended the Academy Awards. Natu Natu won the award over heavyweight competitors - Lady Gaga's Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick, Rihanna's Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, This Is a Life from Everything Everywhere All at Once, and Tell It Like a Woman' K's song 'Applause' made his name by defeating it.

Another filmmaker from India, Shaunak Sen's All That Breathes was nominated in the Best Documentary Feature Film category, which Navalny won. Let us tell you that Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone gave a presentation from the stage at Oscars 2023 yesterday. Deepika was the third Indian star to perform at the Oscars after Persis Khambatta and Priyanka Chopra.

India received a total of three nominations at this year's Oscars. 1st for Best Original Song (RRR song 'Naatu Naatu'), 2nd Best Documentary Feature Film (Shaunak Sen's All That Breathes), and Best Short Documentary (Kartiki Gonsalves-directed The Elephant Whispers). India won awards in two of these three categories.

Let us tell you that the Oscars were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. This was the third time Jimmy Kimmel hosted the Oscars.

Studio A24's futuristic film "Everything Everywhere All at Once" won seven awards, including Best Picture, Direction, and three out of four acting categories. Netflix's German-language war epic "All Quiet on the Western Front" won four categories, including best international film.
