News Synopsis

OPPO, a global smart device brand, emerged as a leader in smartphone shipments for "Made in India" in the first quarter of 2022, recording 22% year-on-year growth, a new report said Monday.

According to Counterpoint Research, increased smartphone demand and exports in India boosted smartphone shipments in India by 7% (YoY) in the first quarter of this year to over 48 million units.

Despite the lack of global component shortages, the local smartphone manufacturing ecosystem remained resilient and OPPO showed exceptional performance that emerged at the top as it gained the largest share of smartphone shipments.

Senior research analyst, Prachir Singh said, “OPPO has continuously not just focused on increasing its manufacturing capabilities in India but also automated a lot of processes that led to production efficiencies. This has helped OPPO to manage its supply chain better and at the same time helped to attract a lot of other component players.”

Overall shipments of "Made in India" smartphones exceeded 190 million units in 2021. The reason for continued growth is the support of various Indian government initiatives to increase local manufacturing.

OPPO has a manufacturing base in India and is a major player supporting the "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" initiative. The company said it will continue to improve performance in R&D and manufacturing to maintain its market position and overall performance.
